The Missing Project
Deirdre Kashdan
Artist, Campaigner, Networker.
In Victorian hidden mother photography, a person, usually the mother, would be draped in the background whilst holding the child still in order for the photograph to be processed. I identified with these images, which resonated with my own experience as a mother giving essential but hidden support to her mentally ill son. I now have a collection of photographic images which women have created to capture their own stories. The images are life-size, printed on vinyl, and are designed to hang in a variety of public spaces.
